Bought this as a supplement to the Bluebook. The examples can be a little hard to follow and not have enough information on a certain topic. However, with this, the Bluebook, UMB, and Coregrammarforlawyers.com (highly recommend) you should be set!!

The prepositional paring section alone justifies the cost of this book to me. This book has saved me countless hours in the editing phase of legal writing. E.g., getting hung up on seemingly unclear phrasing or over-tinkering with layout. When in doubt, just look in the book. The projects and pictures are beautiful- every day should look like the pictures in this book! I have flipped through this book five times already (and I only got it two hours ago). I also love that her daughter helped her produce it!For clarification, this is for shuttle tatting only (two shuttles needed for each pattern). The patterns are easy to follow (written out, not diagrammed) with great stitch notes. I am a beginning tatter and cannot wait to finally make these creations. I have only a few more stitches to learn before I can (i.e., Josephine ring, split chains/rings). I'm definitely going to be on the look out for more tatting from Hye-oon Lee!

What a delightful tatting book. There are a dozen doilies with variations for each, so the tatter can make a small, medium or large doily. For example, one motif makes 6 different doilies using the center motif as a starting point. They range from 3” to 10” in size 30. The book contains full directions for tatting as well as directions for the more advanced techniques the author employs like the SCMRs. In English, with diagrams for each pattern on 119 pages with color photos of each project. If you like to tat doilies, this one will keep you busy.

Although many patterns today have diagrams, this one has careful photos which easily translate from the written pattern.Been looking for styles that match classic crochet pineapple patterns. This is the one that does it... better than expected.

Johannes Reuchlin (1455-1522) wrote _De arte cabalistica_ (1517) as a kind of synthesis of his Kabbalistic thought. It is constructed in the form of a conversation among three thinkers, the most important being Simon, the Jewish explicator of Kabbalah. This work is in a sense a sequel to Reuchlin's _De verbo mirifico_ [On the wonder-working word], but focuses almost entirely on the Kabbalistic side of things.As an introduction to Kabbalah in an ordinary sense, the text is not particularly useful, since Reuchlin has his own somewhat idiosyncratic spin on what is most important. As an introduction to Christian Kabbalah, however, it is a seminal work, and along with _De verbo mirifico_ and Pico's _900 Theses_ required reading. Reuchlin's opinions probably did more than anything else to encourage the spread of Jewish mystical thought into the Christian West, and this is one of the books at the heart of that movement.The edition is useful, including both an English translation and a facsimile of the Latin text. Unfortunately the layout is poor, so that the translation often ends up several pages off from the Latin, preventing direct comparison. The translation itself is good, although it would be improved by more scholarly apparatus and notes, which are conspicuously thin. Fortunately the volume is inexpensive, which makes up for quite a bit.A decent library of early modern occult thought should have this book. The modern practitioner will not, I suspect, find it terribly useful, nor will those interested primarily in Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah. The principal value of the book is that it makes available a text which greatly influenced later Christian occult thinkers, notably Agrippa, Dee, Bruno, Fludd, and others.

Reuchlin was one of the first Christian authors to attempt to make the Jewish Kabbalah accessible to a Latin-reading audience. The publishers of this work are to be thanked for printing such a classic.However, this edition is not without its faults. As others have noted, there is no scholarly apparatus, which would have helped the reader make sense of what admittedly is a difficult text. The format of the text on the page is poor (although the Latin pages seem to be reproducing the pages from the first printed edition, so for that half of the book, the formatting is excuseable). I find the English translation to be idiosyncratic, and just plain erroneous in points. Fortunately, with the Latin right there, these mistakes are not that difficult to spot.But for someone willing to put up with these problems, this edition of Reuchlin's work can be a helpful entre into the world of Christian Cabala.

I love this book. The patterns are simply made but are stunning to see. I have made (with my sister) four quilts based on what this book taught me. In addition, the book is interesting to read and the photography is excellent. This books continues to inspire new quilt ideas for us. It's well worth having in your quilt book library! :)

This is a supercharged book written so that quilters are not intimidated. I felt like the writers wanted me to learn and succeed, using their instructions.The patterns will help a quilter make "show off" quilts" that are easier than they appear.

This is a must-read volume for anyone interested in a behind the scenes look at how the tumultuous "American Century" was launched. History buffs will be familiar with the titans of finance, industry and politics who were the major players of the time - Morgan, Westinghouse, Carnegie, Edison, Harriman and Roosevelt to name a few - all of whom have been fully biographied, but what this book brings to the spotlight is the crucial role of the lawyers who were there at the elbow of the titans every step of the way. The names of many of those lawyers will be familiar to today's lawyers because they are still part of iconic "white shoe" firms still thriving on the American legal scene - Paul Cravath, (Algernon) Sullivan & (William) Cromwell, Charles Evans Hughes, George Wickersham, John W. Davis and many others. The term "white shoe", according to the author, derives from the white bucks favored (in summer presumably) by this cadre of elite lawyers. However, despite the image this conjures of Gatsby-era frivolity, the book makes clear that these guys (all men in those early days) were mostly tough as nails and ruthless - they had no choice if they wanted to win the confidence of the likes of Morgan and his fellow barons who were often at each others throats. To thrive in these circles, the white shoe lawyers had to be hard-headed businessmen as well as creative lawyers. The giant corporations increasingly required close legal supervision to help them navigate the thicket of growing governmental regulation and to control their most rapacious urges - not an easy task. I found the book to be entertaining as well as informative. The author writes with an eye out for the humorous angle to many of the conflicts. For example, in the course of telling the fascinating story of the high stakes battle between Edison and Westinghouse over whose brand of electrical current (AC current vs DC current) would be adopted as the American standard, the author recounts that Edison (the DC proponent) suggested that AC current be used in the first execution by electric chair in New York State - ostensibly to institute a more humane form of capital punishment than hanging, but really to associate AC current with the dangers of electrocution in the public's mind. The execution went forward in August 1890 but was bungled. The subject, a convicted murderer named Kemmler, was declared dead after receiving seventeen seconds of AC charge, but as it turned out he was still alive, requiring another eight agonizing minutes of jolts of 2,000 volts that burned him to death. The author's research uncovered Westinghouse's sardonic observation following this gruesome fiasco - "they would have done better using an axe." Westinghouse's AC system subsequently won the day, as we all know.I recommend this book certainly to lawyers, as an interesting primer on how the modern law firm system emerged and evolved, but also to laymen, as a new look at the personalities and dynamics which transformed the Gilded Age and forged it into the momentous industrial behemoth of twentieth century America.
