Given the time period this was written, Lost Light is an excellent book. The summary of Kuhn's work in this book is that the Bible and all its stories - from beginning to end - describe the death of the soul, or incarnation into the physical world. When death is described or referred to in the Bible, it is speaking of the death of the soul (incarnation into the physical body) and not our normal use of "death" as that of the physical body itself. This throws a new light on the scriptures and is a welcomed insight. Really...I don't think I will ever read Paul or John's Revelation quite the same way again!Like Kuhn's other works, this one makes the argument that ancient Egypt had the original esoteric wisdom that other later religious traditions (including Christianity) copied but described using different stories. Although Kuhn's knowledge is obviously extensive in this area, his presentation of parallel concepts between Egyptian and Christian symbolism suffers from lots of detail. He assumes that the reader has a grasp of some fundamentals of ancient Egyptian gods, goddesses, and their stories. Because of that, a reader can get a little lost in understanding what he is trying to point out at times. It would help the reader if he/she has some basic understanding of ancient Egyptian gods/goddesses and their stories. However, one can still glean a lot out of these areas if you have the patience to work through it and do some homework. It is worth it!Kuhn's use of language is incredible. I don't think I've read another author who is quite as prolific in language style than him. It even borders on being poetic at times. That said though, be prepared to look up many words. This is not a quick read. Personally, I like his sophisticated style. However, one reviewer commented how he gets into long introductions and goes into meanderings at times. This is true. I too got annoyed sometimes and wanted him to get on with his main point, but that didn't deter me from the great gems of intelligence that await in other areas.This work takes a decidedly positive view on Plato. The Timaeus is quoted often and other philosophers such as Plotinus, Thomas Taylor, and Edward Carpenter are used as helpful commentary. It also makes many references to Hermetic texts. The Egyptian Book of the Dead is quoted often too. I have never read it but want to now that I've read this text.This is an esoteric work; meaning, it will give the reader an inner or symbolic reading of the scriptures rather than a literal one. If you tend to view scriptural stories, events, and characters as symbolic and not historical, then you're in for a treat. But if you take your Bible as completely literal, then this book will more than challenge that view. Kuhn is no friend of orthodox Christianity and will take issue with a literal view of reading the scriptures at every turn. His view of Bible events and characters are decidedly mythological; much along the lines of Joseph Campbell, John G. Jackson, and Acharya S. That said though, he will vehemently argue for the inner esoteric truth and wisdom of what those Biblical stories teach. If you can't literally believe in the Bible's stories but know there is inner meaning in them, then you'll love Kuhn!My favorite items of insight were how Kuhn makes the sayings of Paul come alive with new inner meaning. Also, his discussions on baptism, the Ark of the Covenant, and the Ark in the story of Noah, among many others, are also excellent. I particularly enjoyed his discussions on reincarnation, which are seldom discussed and frowned upon in the Christian community. What you read about is not your normal Christianity: I think it is a LOT better.It is hard to find writers that provide esoteric views of Bible stories in as much detail as Kuhn. However, if you are looking for other writers besides him, I would highly recommend Inner Christianity by Richard Smoley. This is also a top-notch work but Smoley will have a slightly different twist than Kuhn. Tom Harpur's books, The Pagan Christ and Water Into Wine, will also provides more modern insights that parallel Kuhn's ideas. Harpur readily admits he got most of his material from Kuhn; however, I still think Kuhn does that best job.Finally, I would recommend that you read everything that you can get your hands on by Kuhn. He will provide you with a wealth of ideas. Even if you don't agree with them all, it will show alternative roads that you didn't know were there.

The book goes through the universal myths found around the world and unlocks their unitary message. If you read sacred scriptures as literal historical truth, this book will destroy your faith in the beliefs you've held. If you are courageous and want to think for yourself by having all available information, you will be enlightened. You ahould go on to read A Rebirth of Christianity by Kuhn and Gnosticism by Hoeller.

This book did not have any paragraphs. it has about 500 pages and while the content in some parts made since about similarities in Egyptian culture believing in God, it kept repeating it and other items. Boring. A waste.

He shows that Christianity is a re-telling of the age old wisdom which is common to all humankind.The Bible is a much misunderstood book, but Kuhn provides the keys to unlock its secrets.As a carrier of a divine soul, every human has a stupendous role to play in the cosmic drama, as explained by Kuhn.Those few who are ready for this book will will get a truly mind blowing experience from it.

Dr. Kuhn may be the most profound author ever (in my opinion). This work is tremendous. The command of the languages that Dr. Kuhn has is second to none.

Wrote a separate review of Volume 3 of The Nearly Complete Works of Donald Harington, about Harington in general. Won't repeat it here. This is a wondrous book, which, having read the Kindle version, I purchased in hard-cover, both because I liked it so much that I wanted to physically own it, and because it is filled with photographs which one periodically wants to refer back to while reading the text, and which is nearly impossible to do in digital format.The book is about places in America where someone had a dream to build a city--based on the gold rush, or one or another fantasy--and called it thus: ****** City. But the City never happened; there was no gold, no secret hot spring with healing powers, and so on. The book meanders through the Ozarks, as do all of Harington's books, meeting up with, and interviewing, the characters who remained behind.Reading it, I kept wondering whether it was fiction or not. It appears to be factual, and indeed the photos make it pretty clear that the places are real, but it has the quality of a novel. In the end, I think I would call it a non-fiction novel, though I'm not altogether clear as to why. It's part history, part autobiography (although that's not apparent until the Acknowledgments, which are an integral part of the book), part love story, and I found it altogether enchanting.Some folks hated it. So it goes.

I was always confounded by my parents love for the Ozarks. When they retired and built their dream home in Bull Shoals, Arkansas, it seemed the most unlikely place to live out the end of their lives. It was impossible to get to without a 3 leg journey by commercial airline, puddle jumper and car. I was only able to visit them about 4 times in their 15 years there. This novel explores the same territory through the eyes of two history lovers, and reveals the reasons why my parents loved the area so much they were both willing to die there. The writing is as unique and beautiful as the folk-lore found in the bluffs and valleys around the White and Arkansas Rivers.

I loved reading about these lost towns of Arkansas. They're the story of little depopulated, abandoned towns all over the country. The author tells the stories of the ambitious charactors who built the towns and of their hopes, the boomdays and the slow abandonment as the movers and shakers continued to move west, leaving decaying buildings and a handful of old timers who remained and remembered the glory days of their youth. This book is so good, you can almost hear the sounds of hatchets felling timber and boats lumbering up and down the rivers.

The writing itself is excellent. The book isn't sure what kind of book it wants to be, and takes too long to figure it out. I got this as an e-book. It includes photos, which were not clear on the Kindle, and that was disappointing as the pictures were referenced in the story. I was glad to get to the end.

Ah, this book was a delight. A couple of relatives of mine are in the 'Cherokee City' section. They are no longer with us, so it was good to see their stories in print. I've read this book twice. During my second pass through it, I actually re-created the trip around Arkansas, and was able to find most of the buildings that were pictured in the book. They have aged a lot in the last 20+ years, as have we all. Please, reader, pick this book up and read it. You will not regret it.

Must read for superb narrative and descriptive settings and hitting the nail on the head for the way Arkansas folk live. You will be pleased to know how many books are available because you will be addicted once you start the journey back in time and place to Stay More, Arkansas.

Harrington does his research and creates an extremely interesting look back at some Arkansas cities. Many no longer exist and would be lost in time without books such as this. The author makes reading enjoyable with his sometimes humorous style and presentation. I can recommend the book to anyone with a desire for looking back into early Arkansas times.

When my daughter was young I purchased this book for her. It was paperback at that time. My daughter now grown. She read it so many times it became twice its size. I recently purchased it for a gift for a dear friend who has a small child. It the child can read it is wonderful, and if not what a great book to read to them. There is no book that my daughter became so attached to. Highly recommend.

We read these as read aloud bedtime stories - when picture books are "too little" and novels are too stimulating this made for a good night time reading and talking time about the great stories and topics brought up. Works for age 10 and up.

My daughter once picked this up in services and got really into it, so I bought it for her. It is funny and interesting and good for kids who like to read AND learn about Judaism.

I am a supplementary jewish school middle school teacher. I have purchased this book to review it as a source for material for my class. However I have decided that it is written in a way that we could use the entire book for our book club. It is thoughtful, inclusive and written in a way that children can relate to. I recommend for class 6-8th grades.

Well written and good reading, both for adults and children. Especially for pre-teen and teenagers.

I wanted to be able to share the spiritual aspects of Judaism with a teenager. I thought it was tooesoteric and difficult to understand. for that age levbel

Okay, so after spending my last weeks mostly studying this book, i wanted to write a review.This book is very good. It is well written and fulfills any missing knowledge that may be necessary to thoroughly understand the LEED credits. I was familiar with LEED before, however i wasn't very comfortable with some of its requirements as there are so many different subjects to deal with (you even need some knowledge about mechanical and electrical stuff in a lot of credits). With this book, you don't need to worry about them. All the credits starts with a summary section that explains the credit requirements and those electrical/mechanical terms in a very comprehensive manner. You basically progress step by step in each credit without getting lost.It also contains good case studies throughout the book, and sample questions which can be accessed online.If you are new to LEED requirements in general, i highly recommend this book.

I don’t want to say it is useless, it has been prepared well except its paper quality and it is not colored. I think it is a kind of photocopy. Font size is also very big. This document could be prepared with 25% less pages. Actually, it is not more than a copy past of USGBC LEED v4 for BUILDING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. After having purchased other study guides and not passing the exam, I purchased this study guide and PASSED. I highly recommend this study guide above all others.

Bottom Line - I passed the LEED AP BD+C exam on my first try and this book was the most valuable source for my study. This book is 600+ pages and contains every single bit of information that you need to ace the LEED AP BD+C exam. In the last sections of the book there are also credit summaries, case studies, LEED glossary, summary of the important standarts and programs, and all other stuff that must be well known before taking the exam . It breaks down the information very clearly and you don't need to waste time by trying to learn some complicated stuff that are addressed by some of the LEED credits.While taking the exam, i felt very confident with the help of this book. As for the exam itself, the majority of the questions were tricky. But with the quidance throughout the whole book (in the key things to remember sections), the tricky part that are likely to be asked on the exam are also listed at the end of each LEED prerequisites and credits. Make sure you go through those sections again and again!Studying for the LEED AP exam is not the most exciting thing, but at least this book makes it easy to follow. I would say I was able to concentrate fairly easily reading this book without zoning off. My recommendation is to follow all the advice in the book and review the summary sections well, and you will definiely get a good passing score. Good luck!

This book covers everything you need to pass Leed AP BD+C V4 Exam.I strongly recommend this book to everyone.Even if you don't have any project experience, you will easily understand the book content.All important information is highlighted in bold fonts and it's easy to look up later on.There is a LEED glossary at the back of the book along with other important appendices. This is probably the greatest LEED AP book, all others just seem way to thin and/or poorly written.In its last pages, the book contains very helpful appendix sections which captures the standards that are asked on the exam, so you don't need to go back and forth through the book again when finished reading. Be sure to go through the appendix sections at the back of the book as well, you will definitely need them in the exam.

Good book to have.This book and its practice tests book should be enough to pass the exam.

This is not an easy read or easy to understand book. Do not purchase unless you already had a great understanding of how to use iPhone. Would not recommend.

This book is exactly what I was hoping for: simple, clear, complete and very well illustrated. It really taught me how to use my first smartphone, an iphone 6. I highly recommend it to my fellow seniors!

There were times when I thought this book was simply outstanding, and in certain sections I found myself furiously underlining. In these sections, and in the other Guardini book I am reading (Meditations Before Mass), I can see why he has been a favorite read of recent popes. There were also times when I thought it was a bit superfluous in language and a more basic and somewhat unsatisfying version of better works on each topic in which it skimmed given its purpose as a general overview.In The Art of Praying, Guardini devotes the first third to understanding prayer in a general sense and developing the proper disposition and discipline of prayer. He then moves to specific types of prayer - oral prayer, contemplative prayer, intercessory prayer, prayer to the saints, and consideration of divine providence. Chapter 1, preparation and form, was excellent...I found a plenitude of valuable nuggets and helpful practical suggestions, especially in developing a consistent prayer discipline. Chapters 2-4 were also mostly edifying, moving from basic acts of prayer (ch 2), to the Trinity (3) and then to a discussion of oral prayer (4).Chapter 5, on Contemplative prayer, was less satisfying than the preceding chapters. Guardini calls "contemplative" prayer what I think most of the Church's great saints would split into two distinct parts - meditation and contemplation (the former being active work of the intellect, the latter being the receipt of a gift from God that is more infused). It was here that I started to feel like other works were just superior to Guardini's treatment. St. Teresa of Avila's "Interior Castle" would be a prime example. Or to traverse many great saints, Ralph Martin's overview of the mystics in "The Fulfillment of All Desire" is a far more instructive work. This disappointment continued with Ch. 6, Divine Providence, where I immediately had the feeling that Jean-Pierre De Caussade's "Abdondonment to Divine Providence" overshadowed anything Guardini had to say. Perhaps Guardin's short chapter is a nice synopsis of De Caussade, but if you have read the latter, you will feel a bit underwhelmed.Guardini rallies the effort in Chapters 7-9, treating prayers to the saints and mary, prayer in difficulty, and the overall pattern of Christian prayer life. Towards the very end, his commentary on the key differences between personal prayer, devotions, and liturgical prayer is a real treasure.Overall, this book is a fast read, and worth it for chapters 1-4 and 7-9.

This is very clear, practical and helpful spiritual writing. I enjoyed the flow of thought and it raised my spirits to learn what he had to say.

Besides the deep explanation about the best and honest ways to be in connection with God, in this book I found the most insightful explanations about the Divine Providence and the way it works. In some parts what I was reading was like small episodes of my own living experiences that I have had during some times in muy life and were kind of amazing episodes. I am mexican and live in Mexico so I decided to make a transtation of the Divine Providence chapter because I have not found a spanish version of this book. I want that to be read by my family and friends. They will see life in a different context.

This book helped me understand the different kinds of prayer and that prayer is a practice of the will springing from, and leading to, faith.

This is the best book on Prayer I've ever read.

An excellent read that strengthens one's faith and understanding of prayer. Though written many years ago, the wisdom contained in this book is as relevant today as ever. All Christians, rather Protestant, Catholic, or otherwise should find this book practical and inspiring.

Now on my list of favorites. It made a second list; books I will read more than once. If you're on the fence, take the leap. You won't regret buying this book.

this book was surprising. at first I thought it was going to be dry..........but when I opened it a second time, the Holy Spirit anointed it and my spirit to receive, It is wonderful, inspiring teaching! Thank you. I have been a praying Christian for over 40 years, and was inspired by this book.
